Electrophysiology

Electrophysiology is a medical discipline which deals with arrhythmia, a condition in which the heartbeat is irregular being too fast (tachycardia) or too slow (bradycardia). Having a slow heart rate may cause a simple fainting fit and constant tiredness or even a loss of awareness with a plausible sudden fall. On the other hand, concerning tachycardia the most common symptoms are:

  • Palpitations together with labored breathing;
  • Fainting fit or, at worst, loss of awareness and the risk of sudden fall.

In many cases, a intracavitary electrophysiological study of the heart is compulsory. Through femoral veins’ access small catheters are inserted into the ventricles under local anaesthesia and with a soft sedation.
