Susan G. Komen Italia

Susan G. Komen Italia is a non-profit organization for Breast Cancer prevention and control. Its volunteers organize fundraising activities and several projects aiming at:

• Promote prevention;
• Supporting women in facing their tumor;
• Improving medical tratments’ quality.
   

The RACE FOR THE CURE, the symbolic event organized by the Susan G. Komen Italia, consists of 3 days during which sport, health ad well-being are the main focuses of the event, culminating in a 5 km run or a 2,5 km walk around the historical centre of the city. Fondazione Poliambulanza is the Local Major Partner of such an important event which will take place from 14 to 16 October in C.so Zanardelli, Brescia.

The RACE was born in the USA, but since 2000 it has reached other country, seducing also Italy, where it has achieved great consensus (about 100.000 participants every year), becoming the most important event for the cure of brest cancer. It has also helped defeating the reticence and fear dealing with it, making women, the “Pink Women”, the real protagonist of the race. Their significative presence and commitment during the event is an important message of encouragement of support for all the 48.000 women receiving the diagnosis of breast cancer annually.

KOMEN IN FIGURES
Susan G. Komen’s activities have provided the following remarkable results:

• 26.817 visits, mammographies and ultrasounds;
• 652 initiatives to promote sport, healthy nutrition and wellbeing;
• 1132 free educational meetings;
• 251 awards for physicians and researchers;
• 2.700.000 euro of funds for non-profit organizations dealing with the fight against breast cancer.
