Technologies for care

Image-guided diagnosis

In Fondazione Poliambulanza digital technologies are actually available for patients’ radiological examinations. Within the Interventional Radiology, digital radiology examinations can be performed, ensuring high resolution images. As a consequence, it significantly shortens lead times and wating times as well.

In addition, there is also a traceability system making it possible to trace all the examinations since Admission to Hospital to final reports. The perfect synergy between management software and clinical software (RIS and PACS) avoids data duplication and/or errors. Moreover, the use of digital mammography devices within Fondazione Poliambulanza offers better contrast resolution and reduces errors in detection.

Computed Axial Tomographs

Fondazione Poliambulanza’s Medical Imaging has 3 Computed Axial Tomographs, two of them placed within the ward and the last in the First Aid.

Within Fondazione Poliambulanza a statistical model based iterative reconstruction (MBIR) methods have been introduced to clinical CT systems and are being used in some diagnostic tomographs’ clinical diagnostic applications, so as to reduce the associated radiation dose levels.

CT  1: General Electric 660J Asir

128-layer tomograph equipped with Asir dose reduction system and specific software for the execution of cardiac axial projection with a single acquisition (Cardiac Performance Package).
This software allows to obtain excellent results even in patients with heart rate up to 80 bpm, thus avoiding in many cases the use of beta-blocking medications.
This equipment is also equipped with all  specific softwares for vascular, neurological investigations, Virtual Colonscopy and Dentalscan.

CT  2: Siemens Somaton Sensation Cardiac

64-layer tomograph equipped with a dose reduction system and specific software for carrying out cardiological, vascular and neurological  examinations.

CT  3 Emergency Room:  General Electric 660J Asir
64-layer tomograph equipped with Asir dose reduction system.
Such system  is also equipped with all specific software for vascular, neurological and cardiological investigations.

All Poliambulance CT  are connected with the reconstruction and post-processing system of ADW Server Examinations of General Electric.
This system allows from any reporting station to reconstruct three-dimensionally the examinations for the execution of post-reconstruction studies.

Gynecologic Imaging

It is an imaging modality which permits the evaluation of uterus and ovaries so as to study pelvic pathology and distinguish any possible gynecological cancers.

Fondazione Poliambulanza’s Medical Imaging Service is a pilot centre with great experience. Since its physicians have treated thousands of cases, the centre has become an important point of reference for patients coming from all over Italy.

Virtual Colonoscopy

The Poliambulanza Foundation Image Diagnostic Service is one of the centers in Italy to carry out Virtual Colonscopes.
In patients where colonscopy is not possible (eg in the presence of narrowings, spasms, lesions), the diagnosis is integrated with a radiological investigation.
By means of a low x-ray dosage TAC,  the anatomical data needed to carry out a virtual reconstruction of the intestine is obtained,  thus reaching,  in the mini-invasive mode,  the same diagnostic objectives as  the more traditional colonscopy.
