Prof. Parolini began her research experience abroad, where she worked for renowned research institutes such as St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee (USA, 1991-1994). She was a Visiting Scientist in the Department of Immunology at the University of Vienna from 1995 to 1998, after which she became Head of the Laboratory of Molecular Immunology (1998-2002). After ten years Prof. Parolini returned to Italy with the aim to lead a research center at the Fondazione Poliambulanza Hospital. Since then, she has been the Director of the E. Menni Research Center (CREM) in Brescia (Italy).
In 2004 Prof. Parolini began a her academic appointments at multiple Italian universities and became a visiting lecturer at the University of Granada (Spain, 2009-present) and University of Chengdu (China, 2014 to present). Since September 1, 2016, she is Full Professor of  Experimental Biology at the “A. Gemelli” Faculty of Medicine and surgery, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome. From 2016 to 2019 she was Director of the Institute of Anatomy and Cell Biology. From 2017 to 2020 she was President of the Degree Course of Health Biotechnology. Since 2017, she is Director of the Centro di Ricerca di Medicina Rigenerativa (CROME). Since 2018, she is Coordinator of the PhD Program in Experimental and Translational Medicine. Since 2019, she is Coordinator of the Degree in Biotechnology in Personalized Medicine. Since 2020, she is Director of Master in Regenerative Medicine and Tissue Engineering at the “A. Gemelli” Faculty of Medicine and surgery, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome. She has been recently nominated Director of the iobank for Personalized Medicine at the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario “Agostino Gemelli” IRCCS.

Prof. Ornella Parolini is author of over 170 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals (total Impact Factor 1.039; total Citations 7719; h-index 47).
She is also amongst the Top Italian Scientists of the Via-Academy.org; she is author of 2 patents, 12 book chapters, and is Editor of a book entitled “Placenta the tree of life”. In the field of stem cells in regenerative medicine, Prof. Parolini has held over 140 invited lectures in international congresses and/or institutes, has been scientific leader and organizer of 20 international events focused on the applications of placental stem cells in regenerative medicine.
